Case study

CareerTeam supported Eurowings Digital from the outset in the targeted and strategic recruitment of the management team

An airline as a digital travelling companion

For travel and transport companies, a digital focus and a diverse, innovative offering are increasingly becoming a prerequisite for surviving the competition from online platforms. Additional services and travel products, as well as offers that are precisely tailored to the customer, are particularly important sales factors. Eurowings took the decision to face up to the competitive online market and set up its own subsidiary for its digital activities. With its own platform, Eurowings will in future offer a "travel companion" that accompanies travellers throughout their entire adventure.

Objective of the project

The aim of Eurowings Digital is to create a platform that provides customers with a simple and practical "end-to-end" travel experience. CareerTeam was involved in both the personnel concept and the development of Eurowings Digital from the very beginning:

  • Advice on required specialist and management positions
  • Advice on an optimal hiring sequence
  • Joint development of a recruiting strategy

Based on the developed strategy, the executive positions at Eurowings Digital were filled first, followed by the positions below them. CareerTeam was responsible for filling the positions of Chief Sales Officer (CSO), Head of HR and Head of Architecture & Solution.

Search process and outcome

Chief Sales Officer (CSO)

610 Candidates screened
200 Candidates addressed
85% Response rate
51% Positive feedback / interest

Head of HR

500 Candidates screened
180 Candidates addressed
75 Response rate
25 Positive feedback / interest

Head of Architecture & Solution

200 Candidates screened
90 Candidates addressed
49 Response rate
21 Positive feedback / interest

For all positions filled by CareerTeam, it was essential that they were digital natives with strong expertise in e-commerce. In addition, a bridge had to be built between extensive experience and understanding of corporate structures and a pronounced start-up mindset, which was to accelerate the founding of Eurowings Digital. CareerTeam impressed with its in-depth expertise in recruiting executives in digital industries and its extensive network of experts. Eurowings' openness to flexible working models allayed fears that Cologne would be at a disadvantage as a location. As a result, the search was ultimately concluded successfully.

With the help of CareerTeam's network and expertise, we were able to fill the management level of Eurowings Digital with high-quality candidates despite the challenging search process.
